Chicago Cubs’ looks for glory - MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ president of baseball operations, Theo Epstein, welcomed the season on Thursday, April 05, as the team was supposed to take on the Washington Nationals in the Opening Day game.
But the entity that attracts much media attention and glare due to the stature he enjoys in the game had some observations to make.
Being the focus is a compliment for him; nonetheless he wants this focus to be directed to the team.
"That's nice and a compliment, but I'm realistic to know if that's the case, it's because I'm a symbol," said Epstein. "It's not me. There are dozens and dozens and dozens of people -- the players first and foremost -- who are working extremely hard trying to push the organization forward."
He joined the Chicago Cubs in October last year. With his arrival came the renewed hopes that the Cubs would finally see the change and ascension they have so long awaited to witness. After all, they had an embarrassingly poor season last year whereby the lost more than 90 games.
But with the Opening Day also comes new hopes. "It's a special day, one of the best days of the year, and the feeling of renewal is amplified every time you're with a new team," Epstein said.
Chicago Cubs now have a number of reasons to feel confident about. From the frontline office that saw the change to the players who feel reinvigorated to take on the rivals, the fans will have many surprises to see.
Theo Epstein, an able and ambitious personality that he remains wants the team to reflect and aim higher. For him nothing less than winning the World Series would be a tribute to the magnificent and big changes that the team has recently witnessed.
It was Theo Epstein who guided the Boston Red Sox to win the World Series after decades in 2004 and then in 2007. Whether he will be able to instil the same winning spirit in the Cubs is something that every one of the Chicago Cubs fans will curiously and eagerly wait to see as the season unfolds.
