Chicago Cubs lose to Philadelphia Phillies 2-9 – MLB Recap
The Chicago Cubs lost to Philadelphia Phillies 2-9 in the first game of their two-match regular series on Wednesday, May 16 at Wrigley Field, Chicago in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Closers Scott Maine and Michael Bowden was hammered for total six runs and proved no good for the Cubs.
On the other hand, the Phillies pitchers especially starter Kyle Kendrick stayed confident on the mound for six innings and went with three hits, two runs and struck out four Cubs’ batters.
"Felt good tonight. Carlos called a good game, I had a good game plan with these guys and it was nice to just be a part of a win." Kendrick said after the game with self-belief.
His class was unmatched as he never allowed any big loop holes to the Cubs and proved all good for his team.
"He did a good job, did a super job," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel also praised Kendrick’s game in which he remained almost unplayable for Cubs’ majors batting offence.
The only player from the Cubs’ team who performed vigilantly throughout the game was starter Matt Garza. He remained on the mound for over six innings and gave only two runs and eight hits. The other pitchers came and spoiled the game which could have won
by the Cubs when they were ahead one run from the Phillies in the bottom fourth.
Later Garza said for his as well as for his team’s performance, “Just have to get better at finishing guys off, I left a lot of two strike counts and let them get back into counts."
The Cubs’ manager Dale Sveum also looked disappointed on his team’s poor effort when he spoke to the media, "The fact of the matter is we have guys pitching in roles they probably shouldn't be pitching in, It's tough. They've never had to do this before
and they're thrown into this mix all of a sudden.”
The Phillies are now strengthening their four-game winning streak and will play the next game even more enthusiastically. In the meanwhile, the next game is scheduled on Thursday, May 17 on the same venue.
