Chicago Cubs lose to Pittsburgh Pirates 0-1 – MLB Recap
The Chicago Cubs lost to Pittsburgh Pirates 0-1 in first game of three-match regular series encounter on Friday, May 25 at PNC Park, Pittsburgh in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Third base Pedro Alvarez played well and helped the Pirates win the game.
"I try to be ready every time on defense and anticipate the ball being hit to me," Alvarez said. "Like I've said before, I take a lot of pride in my defense."
Starter A.J. Burnett also played a handy role for his team’s win as he pitched enormously aggressive and stayed confident on the mound for 5.1 scoreless innings.
"The defense was big," Burnett said. "They saved a couple of them and I was able to find my hook for a batter or two."
On this defeat, the Cubs management looked quite concerned on their players’ performances and did not appreciate the way their players displayed poor baseball skills on Friday .
"It's unbelievable," Chicago manager Dale Sveum said. "We out-hit the opponent every night and can't score. We can't seem to get that hit with men in scoring position. I'm a little lost for words now, It's kind of the same thing.”
The Cubs are currently facing one of their worst losing streaks in two years as they now lost ten consecutive games.
Their losing streak was started on Tuesday, May 15 when they lost from last year’s World Series Champions St. Louis Cardinals.
This loss added another misery to the Cubs’ recent persistent bad performances. They are now at the bottom of National League Central with mere .333 winning percentage along with 15-30 win loss record.
According to some experts, the team, who looked great in 2012 Major League Spring Training, has suddenly picked some wrong strategies which are the main reason why they are failing on consistent bases.
These strategic changes were all brought by the Cubs’ manager who lately also admitted that some of his plans did not work out well which certainly hurting his team, but at the same time he is also optimistic for his team’s quick comeback after mid season
break.
