Chicago Cubs manager confident of team’s success – MLB News
There was only one message for the Chicago Cubs on Friday, February 24, on the occasion of their first full squad workout this year: Victory. The team manager Dale Sveum delivered his first speech in front of a motivated and confident group of players and
team staff, saying that the goal is to win.
"I just let them know that's a team that can compete and do really well. We're not here to rebuild, we're here to try to win the World Series this year,” said the ever confident Dale Sveum who had taken managerial responsibilities after the Chicago Cubs
decided to dismiss Mike Quade owing to the poor performance of the club during the past year.
There was an array of issues that Dale Sveum has to allude to and talk in detail about. Since the air in the camp was filled with gusto, Sveum referred to where actually the strength of the Chicago Cubs lies.
From the pitching to hitting, every aspect was covered in the speech that was heard with care and attention. Present on the occasion were Tom Ricketts, the Cubs’ chairman along with Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer.
All of them spoke on this occasion; but the awaited speech was that of Dale Sveum who is being seen as inspiration for the club at this moment as having all the qualities to instil a winning spirit in the team.
Dale Sveum, after referring to pitching and hitting, talked about the base-running as well.
"Baserunning definitely gets lost, just because of the lack of paying attention to it over your careers, or maybe not being held accountable with baserunning, making turns on the bases," Sveum said. "A lot of these things you try to put in terms of every
team is going to win 60 games and lose 60 games.”
While enthusiasm had permeated the team camp on Friday, what the fans want now is the ever competitive Chicago Cubs perform extraordinarily well on the field. A look at the 40-man roster shows it is all possible given the distinct amalgamation of experienced
and talented young players.
