Chicago Cubs manager satisfied with Carlos Marmol’s performance – MLB Update
The Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum was all praise for the relief pitcher Carlos Marmol on Saturday, April 14, after he had a tough time reining the opponents in the first two games. Marmol, whose performance has improved lately, is bracing himself for the upcoming games now.
"I think a lot of people were just [reacting] because of the first two days, but that's like a hitter going 0-for-8 in the first two games," Sveum said Saturday. "What are you going to do, take them out of the lineup? These things are part of the process.”
Chicago Cubs are playing a three-game series against the defending World Series champion the St. Louis Cardinals these days. The team had a marvellous victory on Saturday when they dealt a severe blow to the Cardinals’ defence, and performed extraordinarily well offensively.
As for Carlos Marmol whose first two games were not up to the mark, and might not have lived up to the expectations of the fans and the management, the team manager Dale Sveum had a convincing explanation for it to offer.
“There's other people on the other side of the field who get paid a lot of money to score runs and beat your closer, and that's going to happen. I think Marmol has been pretty good so far, and Woody has been good. You keep him fresh and ready."
Marmol is gradually establishing his credentials as the effective relief pitcher. Last three games provide an incontrovertible evidence of it. He, to his credit, now has three scoreless relief appearances which will go a long way to help the defence be ever stronger.
If Marmol continues to maintain his laudable performance, and doing his bit with equal effectiveness, the Cubs will have a wonderfully strong combination of defence and offence available at their disposal to go for victories.
Cubs will have the last encounter of three-game series’ on Sunday against the Cardinals as it stands drawn. It will be quite exciting for the fans to see which team will eventually prevail in one of the toughest games played recently.
