Chicago Cubs move Anthony Rizzo to first base position – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs have decided to bring Anthony Rizzo as the first baseman months after Bryan LaHair played on the said position. It is pertinent to mention that the two, interestingly, have in the past remained next to each in the team’s clubhouse.
While Rizzo was in Triple-A Iowa, LaHair showed his brilliance in the Pacific Coast. The two have demonstrated essentially different set of performances. LaHair had no less than 38 homers in the Pacific Coast.
On the other hand, Rizzo – to his credit, had 23 homers. Small wonder why the Cubs have decided to try him now.
While LaHair will not be the first baseman any longer in the team, he knows why Rizzo has been assigned the position. In LaHair’s view, what goes to the advantage of Rizzo are big hits. Nonetheless, for LaHair, what’s important is to represent the team without being concerned about what position he plays at.
"It is what it is," LaHair said Monday. "He'll get the opportunity to play. He's a first baseman and that's the only position he plays. He's got a big bat, so we have to have him. I'm comfortable in the outfield and I just want to hit. As long as I'm in the lineup, I don't really care [where I play]."
LaHair continued and said, "I'm up here playing first, he's down there playing first. When he gets here, we'll mesh well and help each other out."
The team has not had the kind of performance that was expected of them after the arrival of an entirely different management which had the potential to alter the outlook of the Chicago Cubs.
From Theo Epstein to Dale Sveum, who have different responsibilities simultaneously, things have not particularly worked out well under the leadership of these otherwise inspiring figures.
However, changes such as bringing Rizzo above are deemed to be important considering the result the team has given so far. It will, nevertheless, be of great interest to see how Rizzo, replacing LaHair, performs at a time when the Cubs winning a few games is of crucial importance for the team.
