Chicago Cubs move to make gains as Texas Rangers lose the game
The Chicago Cubs made resurgence on Sunday, March 18, to defeat the Texas Rangers by 3-2. Playing against the runner of last year’s World Series, the Cubs waited until the last inning when Joe Mather hit a splendid homer to bring in the victory for the team.
The two-game series ended with both the team winning a game each. At Cashman Field, however, Sundays’ victory was significant for the Cubs due largely to the tremendous rotation the opposing sides had in the game.
Even though the end result did not favour the Texas Rangers in any way, it was Matt Harrison who seemed satisfied with the performance that he exhibited. Of the five innings that he had in the game, he hurled 58 pitches, out of which 40 were for strikes.
The pitcher had a 1.80 ERA that served as a reminder for a lot of hitters how forceful could the pitcher be in the days to come once the regular season starts.
Matt Harrison hopes he will keep up the good performance. "So far so good," Harrison said. "I just hope I keep doing the same things that I have been doing, pounding the strike zone and keeping the ball down. I was able to do that today and get them to swing
at my offspeed stuff. Being aggressive in the zone was my focus today."
Chris Volstad, on the other hand, also had a good pitching spell, allowing only a run in his four innings. Volstad, it is pertinent to mention, is an aspirant for the rotation.
“I try not to think about too many things and keep it simple," Volstad said. "I feel like this is what I should be able to do time and time again. Surprised? No. Happy with the way things are going? Definitely."
But the defeat for the Rangers does not necessarily mean a morale-lowering outcome at all. The club has got all the flavours of a successful and winning side. Chicago Cubs, meanwhile, will have a lot to gain as far as their confidence and spirit for the
upcoming season is concerned.
