Chicago Cubs mulling names from Minor League for new inductions in Majors – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs' manager Dale Sveum said on Friday, August 3 that the club is considering the names of the prospects, third baseman Josh Vitters and outfielder Brett Jackson – both playing for Triple-A Iowa. Ever since the recent trades, which saw a few Chicago Cubs’ senior players gone, efforts are underway to fill those spots.
But the Cubs do not want to show unnecessary haste. Be it the No.1 prospect Jackson or No. 11 Vitters, the Cubs are taking their time before making the final decision.
"It's just determining when, and how everything plays out," Sveum said Friday. "Those guys have gotten their development in. Now, it's just a matter of whether we decide to do it this month or wait until September."
Vitters does stand a chance to make his way into the Majors. In his 108 games so far, he has batted .300, having had 16 homers coupled with 31 doubles and two triples. It is pertinent to mention that Vitters was the Cubs’ No.1 Draft pick in 2007.
While on the other hand, Jackson was the team’s top pick back in 2009. For now, Jackson’s hitting average stands at .258 in 104 games, having had 15 homers coupled with 22 doubles and 12 triples.
James Rowson, who had served as the Minor League hitting coach for the Cubs, now the Major League hitting coach, had seen Jackson previously. In his view, Jackson has all the potential to do well.
"He was having some punchouts, and then he made some adjustments," Rowson said. "We were working on getting him to focus on controlling his head and driving the ball to the middle of the field. When he got comfortable doing it, it took a few days but he started to come along and cut down on strikeouts and hit some balls hard.”
But as to he will be the part of the Majors is currently unknown. Like said earlier, the club will take its time before going ahead with inducting these players in the line-up. Nonetheless, the chances are that both the players make it into the Majors sooner than later.
