Chicago Cubs offer arbitration to Aramis Ramirez – MLB News
The National League Central club, Chicago Cubs have taken a bold move and given an offer for arbitration to Aramis Ramirez.
It has been considered that the Ramirez might not think to accept the deal, as he has already made his mind for multi-year multi-million deal. He had declined a $16 million one-year offer last season, merely because of his wish to stay with any club for
at least more than three years. However, it has been in the latest reports that Ramirez, who received $15 million in the last season, might ask for the $18 to $20 million in the arbitration.
The Major League Baseball has classified the player as a Type-B free agent, which means if he declines to accept the offer and signs with any other club, the Cubs will have an option of a Switch pick. Usually the switch pick is made between the first and
the second rounds of the draft in June.
According to the experts, Ramirez does have performances under his belt that made him demand such a high amount. He is a Silver Slugger Award winner for third base hitter. He launched 26 home-runs and 93 RBIs with a .305 batting average this past season.
Accumulative effects of these performances support his demand for a multi-year multi-million deal and according to experts he might get an offer from some healthy clubs, like the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. Ramirez’s agent Paul Kinzer has been
seen with the management of the top five clubs in National League.
The Cubs seems reluctant to give Ramirez a three-to-four year offer. According to experts, it might facilitate in the Cubs possibly losing Ramirez, however the management is still hopeful of a deal with the player. The risk has been taken and December 7
will determine the conditions of both parties. The Cubs has also offered Carlos Pena for arbitration as he will also have until December 7 to decide. Most experts agree that there are good chances that he will accept the offer from the Cubs.
It will be interesting to see what Ramirez does and if he does reject the offer, it will open up all sorts of interesting possibilities for the talented player.
