Chicago Cubs on course to progress – MLB News
The general manager of Chicago Cubs’ Jed Hoyer said on Wednesday, November 30, that there remains a major market and they will remain engaged across the spectrum. His statement comes amid the reports that the Chicago Cubs may have fixed their sights on Albert
Pujols or other big names for their club.
Hoyer also kept discreet and quiet on whether he intended to name the players the club was looking to sign a contract with. He stated that they are in contact with a lot of teams and agents.
All these efforts, it goes without saying, are an attempt to put the team on the right track as it has been a while since they won any major distinction in the game, from qualifying to playoffs to the World Series.
Hoyer talked about the contacts that his team has now with other teams and manager since the Cubs remain one of the biggest franchises around.
"As I've stated in the past, we're a major market team and we're going to be involved across the spectrum," Hoyer said. "I'm not going to address whether we're on or off individual players, other than the fact that we're in contact with a lot of teams and
agents and we're doing everything we can to improve for next year and the future."
Hoyer was asked about other players as well after the Chicago Cubs signed David DeJesus as the new right fielder for the club. Hoyer talked about rounding out on the line-up to put the best team on the field.
For him Tyler Colvin has to perform as he failed to do it in 2011 with a .150 average getting only six homers compared to what he did in 2012 with a .254 average.
Hoyer said he would love to bring back Kerry Wood as well. "We'd love to bring Kerry back," Hoyer said.
With the new changes sweeping the team, it will be seen how the Cubs put together a club that takes on their opponents with zeal previously unseen from the squad during the regular season.
