Chicago Cubs outclass San Diego Padres 8-6 – MLB Recap
The Chicago Cubs’ outclassed the San Diego Padres 8-6 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, May 30 at Wrigley Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win, the Cubs have also won the series 3-0 as well. This is a healthy sign for the Cubs who recently snapped a 12-game losing streak and now sitting with quite ease in their Division.
The Wednesday’s game was quite balanced as both teams got chances to take control in the match, but in the end, it went all in Cubs’ favour as they finished off well defeating the Padres in ninth with the help of Darwin Barney.
Barney hit a tremendous homer in the ninth and lifted his team to a deserted series winning victory.
"That was the first walk-off home run I've had at any level, I didn't even see it go out, I was just running, running hard. It was crazy. It's already gone and passed, it just happened so fast." Barney said with confidence on his performance.
Though Cubs’ starter Ryan Dempster did not play well, but he still made some spirited remarks for his team and for his own game.
"I probably should have just drilled him or something," Cubs starter Ryan Dempster said, "Really, looking back at it ... Holy cow. Fastball in on the black, he hits a homer, then fastball three balls outside and he hits a homer."
Padres’ batting offence showed some early power when they made two runs in the second innings. The Cubs on the other hand, also started to play more aggressive as they levelled the score in bottom second.
From there onwards, the Cubs never looked back and kept the Padres under pressure and eventually outplayed them in the ninth with back to back two scores.
The San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs, both are at bottom in their respective National League Divisions. However, if one of them does change their defensive style of play, then it will be a fair chance for one of them to play in the next round.
