Chicago Cubs pencil Ryan Dempster to start on Sunday – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs on Friday, July 6, pencilled Ryan Dempster to start the game against New York Mets. The finale of the three game series, which will also mark the end of the first half of the season, will see the star pitcher after June 16 when he was consigned to the disabled list.
The injury did not permit the powerful starter to pitch, creating an evident heap of trouble for the Cubs’ defence. However, with a roster move, Dempster will now be back to put things in order again for the Chicago Cubs.
In the team manager Dale Sveum’s view, the pitcher is in phenomenal shape to come forth and pitch as his bullpens are as sharp as anybody’s going to be.
“He says he feels as good as he has all year," Cubs' manager Dale Sveum said Friday. "His bullpens are as sharp as anybody's are going to be. It's just a matter of some durability issues maybe. The guy keeps himself in phenomenal shape. That's one part of the decision. If it was somebody other than Ryan Dempster, you probably wouldn't be thinking about this."
Ryan Dempster’s return was possible after he threw on flat ground on Friday, establishing the evidence of his fitness. The team has decided to allow him to go for 80 pitches in Sunday’s game as he will get on the New York Mets.
Dempster, on this occasion, also spoke of the injury and his recuperation. "It's a tough [injury] to gauge because it's just a matter of how I felt," Dempster said. "I started to feel better, especially the last week or so. It responded well today from throwing the bullpen today."
Ryan Dempster, it is pertinent to note here, will be a free-agent by the end of this season as he is in the last year of his contract with his team, Chicago Cubs. Whether he stays with the Cubs or decides to leave does not have a certain answer.
His focus for now, nonetheless, is the remaining half of the season where he will like to bring more victories for the team.
