Chicago Cubs’ promising prospect Albert Almora making strides – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs may have failed to meet the expectations of the fans in terms of their ability to collect any big title. However, they have individual performers who will go a long way to alter the club’s outlook in the near future.
Second baseman Darwin Barney has been one of them. With 141-game errorless streak that he had this year, the player won the Gold Glove Award, emerging as supremely talented and lethal weapon in the possession of the Cubs.
But there is no dearth of such players and talent in the Cubs. Both Minor and Major Leagues have a pool of talent; something that the Cubs will utilise in the coming years to reverse the tide.
One such player who is making strides lately is Minor League’s Albert Almora. The Cubs’ top prospect and being the Cubs’ president of baseball operation’s first pick, Almora appears a promising player, ready to contribute.
"He's a kid who was challenged at a young age," said Tom Beyers, Cubs' Minor League hitting coordinator. "He got an opportunity to play at levels where he's been trained already in how to handle himself in pro ball, just being in the Olympic situations and playing in front of crowds and playing with older guys.”
When he was part of the Arizona Rookie League, Almora managed .347 batting average in the 18 games that he appeared, following which he got .292 in 15 games with the Class A Boise.
The main thing that will remain prominent highlight of his fledgling career is consistency.
Beyers added, “He's got a pretty good idea on how the game is played. He's very similar to [Cubs 2011 No. 1 pick Javier] Baez -- the same thing on the aptitude side of things. [Almora is a] quick learner, understands what he wants to do at the plate."
Not only that, he was ranked Number one in the world by USA Baseball as he has been playing for Team USA since 2009.
Almora will not be any different from any star once he becomes part of the Chicago Cubs’ in the Major League. Attached to him are hopes that are neither unrealistic nor unachievable.
As the Cubs have found a rare talent in Darwin Barney, here is someone who promises equal excellence in the years to come.
Almora is waiting for the opportunity to show his talent; and the Cubs are awaiting the right moment to see the player serve the club.
