Chicago Cubs slate Justin Germano to start Saturday’s game - MLB News
The Chicago Cubs have slated Justin Germano as the starter for Saturday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Representing the Diamondbacks is Trevor Cahill who will make start against the Cubs.
However, this will be Germano’s last start of this season, and is coming at a very crucial time as well. The Cubs’ lost Friday’s game by a big margin of 8-3. And Germano has lost his last seven starts; something he would not definitely want to repeat here.
Germano vows to finish strong. His finishing strong will have positive results for the Cubs’ effort not to have a 100-loss season this time round.  But Germano is all confident, saying he feels he has made a comeback in his last three games.
"I'm the same as everyone else, and just want to finish strong," said Germano, who has lost seven straight starts. "I hit a rough patch of four starts, and I've felt the last three starts, I've bounced back a little bit. [I] want to keep that going so I can go into the offseason more on a high note than thinking about the four that weren't that good. I want to put up a quality outing and give us a chance to win."
But he knows it will not be easy. Friday’s game saw the veteran Cubs starter Travis Wood giving up five runs in his five innings, surrendering five hits. The Diamondbacks batters seemed spirited and in no mood to spare any opportunity that could be put to use.
With the result of Friday’s game, Germano must be under immense pressure. However, the confidence that he has been exhibiting might well translate into Cubs’ better performance in the second game.
In the 13 games that he has played for the Chicago Cubs this year, he has made 11 starts, having 6.18 ERA with only two wins, and losing nine others. His career average stands at 5.65.
Although Germano has not had a very good season, he would definitely want to finish it with a positive note. Saturday’s victory, if he does that, will certainly be big both for him and the club.
