Chicago Cubs starter Matt Garza could miss 1st month of season – MLB Update
Speculations are mounting that Chicago Cubs’ starting pitcher Matt Garza could miss 1st month of 2013 Major League Baseball with tightness in his back.
“It’s a minor setback that (he) could wind up missing two weeks to a month, Now you’re looking at him getting two (Cactus League) starts at the most,” manager Dale Sveum said and told the media about Garza injury.
Later Garza said and explained about the recent situation, "With the recovery rate I was on, everything felt great and it was like 'Let's go, let's go, let's go, It's just a body's way of saying it's just going to take little more time. It's not a setback,
but just came to the realization that mind and body are (going) too fast. I'm not on pace now to open up, but I'm going to keep pushing, keep trying to get there."
Garza showed good commitment last season with 3.91 ERA along with 5-7 win loss, 96 strikeouts and 1.18 WHIP. Not only just in the last season, but Garza has also a very good career ERA of 3.84 along with 57-win loss, 865 strikeouts and 1.29 WHIP.
Garza is a talented player and knows his game quite well. Though his 1st month’s absence will be felt in the Cubs roster, but still Chicago side has plenty more good starters who possess abilities to take their franchise towards excellence.
At the moment, along with Garza, the Cubs have three more starters Scott Baker along with Scott Feldman and Edwin Jackson. These all have played very well in the last Major League outing and also possess good career numbers.
Baker possesses career ERA of 4.15, 63-48 win-loss 770 strikeouts and 1.26 WHIP. He is considered one of the most offensive pitchers in the Cubs roster and whenever the next season will start, he will be roaring once again with full force.
Feldman also did well in the last season and achieved 5.09 ERA along with 6-11 win loss, 96 strikeouts and 1.38 WHIP. He also carries a good career ERA of 4.81 39-44 win loss, 433 strikeouts and 1.42 WHIP.
