Chicago Cubs thrash Cleveland Indians 6-2 – MLB Spring Training
Chicago Cubs thrashed Cleveland Indians 6-2 at the Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona on Sunday, March 25 in their Cactus League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Alfonso Soriano hit a towering home run in the sixth inning, had three RBI’s and a two run shot to help the Cubs secure a comfortable victory.
"I've probably lost more sleep over our batting order than anything. It's just one of those things," Sveum said.
For the Indians, Jeanmar Gomez gave up three runs over five innings. Gomez is competing for the starting spot with David Huff and Kevin Slowey. He now has an impressive 1.69 ERA in his five spring appearances this season.
"I was really impressed the way Gomez battled without his fastball command," Acta said. "He had to fight through it and it turned into another good outing."
"I still gave five innings to my team and feel good," Gomez said. "I feel ready. I speak with him and watch video of when he was an All-Star in 2010. He helps me with how to attack hitters, how to pitch with men on base."
In a display of some high quality baseball skills, the Cubs asserted dominance over their opponents in almost all areas of the game. The batters made the most of on hand opportunities to post a decent total on the board and the pitching attack gave up just two runs to set up an impressive victory for the Cubs. With their win on Sunday, the Cubs have now improved their spring win-loss record to 11-13.
The Cubs will be pretty happy with the way they have bounced back in their last few spring games. After making a slow start to their Spring Training campaign, it seems Dale Sveum and his men are finally putting pieces of the puzzles together.
Although they won the National League Central division title in 2007 and 2008, they have always struggled to handle the pressure in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the Cubs can cheer up their fans by winning the World Series finals after almost a century.
