Chicago Cubs thrash St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 – MLB Recap
The Chicago Cubs thrashed the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 in the first game of two-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 14 at Busch Stadium, St. Louis in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Though starter Ryan Dempster gave four crucial runs, but still his team went offensive against the St. Louis Cardinals and never let them out from their awful losing streak of four straight defeats.
"It's alright. Baby steps, we got a win when I started a game.” Dempster said after the game.
Before going into this game, the Cubs were already roaring as they had defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 just one day ago.
From pitchers to starting batting lineup, the Cubs played a combined game and kept the 2012 World Series Champions under pressure for nine innings.
Left Fielder Alfonso Soriano and first base Bryan LaHair started well for the Cubs and opened up a two-run cushion in the eighth and ninth to secure a second successive victory for their team.
"I just wanted to slow things down, I came off a rough series and I just wanted to get back on track and hit the ball hard and help the team." said LaHair.
The Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman said for his team’s loss, "Over the course of the season you're going to have little ruts where you're not getting the breaks and when you're not playing well that compounds the problem.”
The Cardinals manager Mike Matheny also said explaining, “It wasn't a scalded dog, it just got out of the infield, It's just where we are right now, we're just going to have to fight."
In the meanwhile, though the Cardinals lost the game, but they are still at top in the National League Central with 20-15 win loss and .571 winning percentage.
The next game will be crucial as the Cardinals look forward to their hitter Carlos Beltran’s potential return from slight knee soreness issues. He is at the moment, the National League leading home run scorer and if he does able to return on field, the Cardinals’ chances of levelling this series are exceedingly high.
