Chicago Cubs to watch Carlos Zambrano as he pitches for first time after August 12 – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs stated on Thursday, November 3 that they will have someone to see their starter Carlos Zambrano’s start in Venezuela. This will be his first start the Caribes of the Venezuelan Winter League after a considerably long period.
Going back, it was back in August 12 when the starter hurled any pitch the last time against the rivals. Because his performance was not up to the mark, he was ejected afterwards. That led to the frustration on his part.
The angry starter Zambrano left the ballpark saying he was retiring from the game. The 30-year-old player was apparently full of contrition on what he did and afterwards commented that it was due to frustration.
Zambrano, while pitching, had allowed five runs which proved quite costly for the team at a time when Chicago Cubs were losing the back-to-back game. He had given up no less than five home-runs in the start which called for his ejection.
Since then, it will be for the first time on Sunday, November 6 that he will be pitching. This comes at a time when he had a 40-pitching day on November 1. His performance was satisfactory considering the gap he had from pitching after such a long time.
Now the Cubs say they will dispatch someone to watch the pitcher. Theo Epstein talked about it in Thursday’s talk to the press. He also referred to the meeting he will have with the pitcher’s agent Barry Praver.
"I think it's a good thing [that he's pitching], under the circumstances," said Cubs’ president of baseball operations Theo Epstein. "He probably needs the innings. It could be good for his state of mind to get out there and perform."
Theo Epstein stated he will talk to the starter himself next week. But he did not specify the date for the meeting. Zambrano now has the chance to put up a good show prior to meeting the new president of baseball operations for the Chicago Cubs, especially
after the dismissal of manager Mike Quade. It remains to be seen what results it will have.
