Chicago Cubs yet to decide the bullpen
The Chicago Cubs may have announced their roster for the Opening Day game, there still are some deliberations over the bullpen. The Cubs manager Dale Sveum on Friday, March 30, indicated that it will not be announced up until the day before the Opening Day
game.
The Cubs might have their own reason to delay the decision at the point in time. They want to assess and ascertain if the Minor Leaguers could also be given spots along with the seniors. Be that as it may, the Cubs have a long list to pick their players
from.
"It'll probably go down to possibly the workout on Wednesday [at Wrigley Field] to make those decisions," Sveum said.
The bullpen may finally come out of the list of pitchers that is available at the Cubs’ disposal. From Kerry Wood to James Russell, the aspirants seem many. Frankie De La Cruz, nonetheless, will not be able to make it to the list.
Kerry Wood, as Sveum puts, will have another inning before the announcement of the bullpen.
"He'll get another inning in before we start up," Sveum said. "It'll be a full inning the next time. We might bring him into a situation again, if it arises, where the starting pitcher is getting close to his pitch count and get [Wood] up there and bring
him in when there's two outs. He did well, and that was nice to see."
The relievers, nonetheless, have a queue all set for the Cubs. From Lendy Castillo to Shawn Camp, from Rodrigo Lopez to Manuel Corpas and Alberto Cabrera, it will have to be seen who the Chicago Cubs finally go for when it comes to the task of relief pitching.
The Chicago Cubs will have Ryan Dempster to pitch on the Opening Day game against the Washington National on 5th April. With the offence appearing to be strong now, the bullpen will have an important task to execute as far as the dominance of
the team is concerned.
It will have to be seen, thus, who will finally get their spots retained in the bullpen once the team announces it on Wednesday.
