Chicago Cubs yet to reach out to Prince Fielder – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs newly hired manager Dale Sveum said on Friday, December 16, that the club has not reached out to Prince Fielder, the seemingly eagerly-sought free-agent slugger belonging to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Reports on Thursday had suggested Dale Sveum himself was immensely interested in signing the player, but Sveum who is the 52nd manager of the Chicago Cubs, said it is media which is doing the talks these days more than the club itself.
"At this point, I think it's a lot of media talking more than us doing anything," Sveum said about reports that the Cubs were one of the teams linked to Fielder.
With Albert Pujols already moved to the Los Angeles Angels with no less than $254 million deal for 10 years, Prince Fielder seems remarkably poised to get one such offer from a team or another, but which team will be, is a question which remains a perplexing
mystery, than a satisfying answer.
Sveum, who also got his coaching staff on Friday, said the club had had no conversation with Prince Fielder. Calling it a media talk, he denied to have established any contact with the player yet.
"We haven't had any talks with Prince, and I haven't had any conversations with him," Sveum said. "It's more the media and other people bringing this to the table than what we're doing. We haven't initiated any kind of contact at all. That's the media bringing
it out right now."
Prince Fielder is all set to get favourable offers largely because he has maintained an enviable record of having an average of 38 homers a season, for past six seasons. His .282 average is a testament to that with a career total of .298 makes an impressive
read for him.
The Milwaukee Brewers, it is important to mention, may have got their focus back on the free-agent slugger due to the fact that Ryan Braun is mired in a failed drug test controversy these days. Were Braun to be suspended, which is that of 50 games, Fielder
provided he gets back to the Brewers, will be a great strength for them.
