Chicago Fire head coach Frank Klopas has mooted rumours of Marco Pappa’s move to Dutch Eredivisie outfit, FC Twente. The midfielder has been linked to the 2010/11 Eredivisie runners-up and reports indicate that efforts are being made to move the player to
De Grolsch Veste.
Klopas, who was handed over Fire’s reins as interim coach in mid-season, was given the manager’s position on permanent basis earlier in November. After concluding their 2011 MLS campaign in October, the former Fire striker made some drastic changes to the
roster.
However, the manager made it clear that Pappa is not one of the deals that the franchise is looking forward to. The Guatemalan midfielder signed a three-year contract with the Fire in 2010, thus he still has a year on his contract.
The boss clearly announced that the Dutch side has not made any contacts with the Illinois-based team on any levels - club or league, whatsoever.
“I have not had any contact from Twente,” Klopas told the media on Tuesday night. “Ourselves, as a club, have not had contact, and from a league standpoint, we have not had contact. There are just a lot of rumors out there, that’s just how soccer is.”
During his two years, Pappa sported the Chicago jersey 50 times and scored 15 goals in the process. The player became a starting fixture in 2011 especially after his mid-season stint with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guatemala-c2913 national team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he scored
a marvellous goal against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Grenada-c2910 at FIU Stadium, Miami, on June 10.
Moreover, the club had been surrounded by Pavel Pardo’s alleged move from Chicago to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mexico-c2956. The head coach admitted the truth in these rumours and assured that the management is doing everything possible to lure Pardo back to Toyota Park.
“They’re moving along, they’re moving along,” Klopas said of the talks. “As we’ve stated before, I think the player wants to stay here and we want to keep him here, so I don’t think there will be ... any issues.”
