Chicago Fire face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Seattle-Sounders-FC-c40474 at CenturyLink Park on Tuesday, October 4, in the final of Lamar Hunt US Open Cup final. The Illinois-based team is hungry for the USOC title, having made it to the final after five years.
The Fire sacked manager Carlos de Cobos earlier in the season and handed over the reins to Frank Klopas as the interim head coach. The former Fire striker, though, could not make a strong statement since taking charge, his regime still saw an improved attack
and defence.
Their chances of making it to the MLS playoffs have definitely taken a boost.
Even if the Fire fail to make it to the postseason this year, they plan to take home one title at least to commemorate Klopas and the fans, who have been supporting the team through thick and thin.
Talking on the matter, striker Dominic Oduro said:
“Personally, I think it’ll be fantastic for the whole organization, for the team and the coach to win the cup.
“He’s doing a great http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684. This would be something good for his resumé and we’d love to win it for him. The players owe it to the fans to bring it back to Chicago.”
The Fire last won the USOC in 2006, their fourth title in all. The team has won all save one of the finals they have appeared in.
Klopas’ men will play the USOC final after five years at an away site. And the Rave Green crowd is known for their domination at CenturyLink.
For defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cory-Gibbs-c9448, however, that is an added motivation.
“Personally, it motivates me more,” Gibbs said. “I like these type of crowds and I also speak for the team, we’re ready for the challenge. It’s something huge.”
Moreover, the Fire have formulated a simple strategy to dominate the Rave Green at their own ground and silence their faithful right from the start. The team plans to take an early lead and keep the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pat-Noonan-c29216 at bay.
Should everything go as planned for the Fire, they will have at least one title to honour their head coach and the fans.
