Chicago Handicap 2011 at Arlington Park - Dr. Zic and Hooh Why favourites on eve of Independence Day
As America’s birthday approaches, horse racing has a present for its fans in the form of the $100,000 Chicago Handicap.
The Grade 3 event is to take place on July 3, 2011. Chicago Handicap is open to mare and fillies, who are aged three, or, above. It has drawn a field of eight contenders, which is dominated by runners, such as Dr. Zic, and, Hooh Why, gathering up to pump up some adrenaline filled entertainment for horse racing enthusiasts just one day before the 4th of July.
Chicago Handicap is run over a distance of seven furlongs on the poly-track surface of Arlington Park. It has twice been championed by Augustin Stable’s, Informed Decision.
Informed Decision has the honour to be the champion female sprinter in 2010. Dr. Zic, who beat Informed Decision in the Grade 1 Vinery Madison Stakes, intends to steal the show in the Chicago Handicap. The Grade 1 Vinery Madison Stakes took place on April 8, 2010.
Trainer, Scott is still counting on Dr. Zic to make anther show of front running style, as he did so over Keeneland’s polytrack surface. Dr. Zic was bred in Kentucky by Ronald McPeek.
Owned by Derby Lane Farm and partners, Dr. Zic has lost six races in a row for trainer Joan Scott. The five-year old chestnut filly got hold of her last win in the Vinery Madison Stakes, in which she pulled off a magnificent feat by defeating Informed Decision.
Dr. Zic enjoyed a 2 1/2 length victory. Informed Decision finished behind the runner-up Dubai Majesty and was placed third.
The daughter of Milwaukee Brew took part in another race and finished third in the Madison Crown held on April 14, 2011.
In her last start on May 14, 2011, she finished sixth in the Canada-3 Woodbine’s Hendrie Stakes. In the Chicago Handicap, Dr. Zic is to wear blinkers, and, will be ridden by E.T. Baird. She will be aiming for her first win since 2010 Vinery Madison Stakes, as she makes her Arlington debut.
Let us focus our attention on the other combatant, Hooh Why, who happens to be a candidate and whose strength cannot be undermined.
Hooh Why as a three-year old picked a surprise win at the Ashland Stakes in 2009 at Keeneland Park. The five-year old filly seems to be acquainted with the all weather surface of Arlington Park.
She has scored two wins including one on June 15, 2011. The seven time winner races for the Estate of Gail Gee, Mark Hoffman, and, Earl Trosturd. She is the daughter of Cloud Hopping.
Hooh Why is trained by Mike Reavis. Her reins will be held by Arlington’s leading rider, Jozbin Santana.
It is hoped that they both provide a show that is full of entertainment such that it makes the fourth of July a wonderful holiday.
