Chicago Sky 88 – Indiana Fever 69
On Sunday night at Allstate Arena, Sylvia Fowles recorded a double-double with a game high 21 points and 12 rebounds as Chicago Sky snapped their two-game losing streak with 88-69 win over Indiana Fever. The victory also snapped
Indiana’s six-game winning streak, however, they are still heading the Eastern Conference with a 15-7 record.
Shay Murphy also posted a career-high 21 points on a 6 for 11 shooting from the field and 6 for 7 from free throw line. Murphy also grabbed six rebounds and stole the ball three times for Chicago. Cathrine Kraayeveld came off the
bench with 12 points while Tamera Young had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Sky, who have won just four of their previous 10 games.
Katie Douglas led Fever with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists while Tangela Smith added 10 points and two steals in the loss. Chicago shot 47.5 percent from the field and limited Indiana to 43.9 percent. Sky also pulled
down 39 rebounds while Indiana grabbed just 26.
Fowles tallied 15 points in the first half as Chicago churned out a one-point lead, 35-34, at halftime. Sky limited Fever to just 13 points in the third quarter and pushed their lead 60-47. Leading by to 13 points after three,
Chicago carried the momentum and cruised to a win.
Minnesota Lynx 84 – Los Angeles Sparks 78
Playing at the Staples Center, Lindsay Whalen erupted with a season-high 24 points, eight assists and four rebounds as Minnesota Lynx beat Los Angeles Sparks 84-78 for their ninth consecutive victory.
Seimone Augustus scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had two steals for Minnesota, who are riding their longest winning streak in the history of franchise. Rebekkah Brunson totalled 18 points, seven boards and three steals
while Maya Moore had 10 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals for the league-leading Lynx.
DeLisha Milton led Los Angeles with 18 points. Tina Thompson chipped in with 17 points, five rebounds and two steals while Ticha Penicheiro ended with 16 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals in the losing effort.
Jantel Lavender added 11 points and six rebounds for Sparks.
Los Angeles committed 18 turnovers and the visiting team committed just 12. Minnesota limited the Sparks to 37 points in the first half and carried an eight-point lead, 45-37, at intermission.
Los Angeles played a good offensive game in the third quarter but Lynx still managed to maintain a seven-point advantage, 65-58, heading into the fourth. They widened their lead to 11 points, 72-61, early in the fourth quarter
and never trailed for rest of the period.
