Chicago Sky hand slumping Tulsa Shock their 11th straight loss; Win 64-55 – WNBA Recap
On Friday night at BOK Centre, Chicago Sky handed the reeling Tulsa Shock their 11th consecutive defeat, 64-55. The victory snapped Sky’s two-game losing streak.
Sylvia Fowles recorded a double-double with a team-high 14 rebounds and 10 rebounds. Fowles also had two steals and two blocks an she pinned 6 of 9 free throws in 32 minutes of action.
Chicago’s guard Courtney Vandersloot scored 12 points, shooting 5 for 9 from the field, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists in the victory. The most important aspect of her performance was that she did not commit
even a single turnover in more than 31 minutes.
Chicago coach Pokey Chatman praised the brilliant play of rookie Vandersloot and said, "That was probably her best game of late, well maybe her best game overall," "All I know is she had no turnovers and that is big. She did not
get the chance to be indoctrinating the league.”
Epiphanny Prince added 11 points and Michelle Snow ended with 11 boards, five assists, two steals, two blocks and four points for the victors.
Ivory Latta of Tulsa topped all the scorers of the evening with 20 points on an 8 for 12 shooting from the field, including 3 for 5 from three-point range. Latta also had three assists and three rebounds in the loss. Tiffany Jackson
grabbed a game best 15 rebounds for Tulsa, who are 0-8 on the road so far in this season.
Chicago shot 38.3 percent (23 for 60) from the field and 69.6 percent (16 for 23) from free throw line. Tulsa, on the other hand, shot 34.3 percent (23 for 67) from the floor and 46.2 percent (6 for 13) from the line.
Shock committed 16 turnovers as compared to 13 by Chicago. In addition to that, the Sky outscored the hosts 28-20 in the points in the paint.
Six different players scored for Chicago in the first quarter as they carried an 18-15 lead into the second. Sky continued to dominate in the second quarter and limited Tulsa to 17 points, stretching their lead to 39-32 at the
end of first half.
Trailing by seven points at halftime, Shock made a great come back in the third quarter and outscored Chicago 16-7, converting the deficit into a two-point lead 48-46 at the end of the quarter. Sky however opened the fourth quarter
on an 8-0 run to take a 54-48 lead and never trailed for rest of the period. It was Chicago’s second road victory of this season.
Chatman acknowledged the victory was a huge one for them and said, “We have struggled on the road this year,” “Tonight, we did a better job of taking care of the ball.”
