Chicago Sky use a balanced attack to thump Los Angeles Sparks 85-74 – WNBA Recap
Six Sky players scored in double figures as Chicago pulled off an 85-74 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks at the Allstate Arena on Sunday.
All five Chicago starters managed to cross the double figure mark.
Epiphanny Prince led the Chicago scoring with 17 points. Courtney Vandersloot, after recording 2 points and 7 turnovers in her last game, bounced back with 15 points; Sylvia Fowles also played well for 14 points and 9 rebounds
while Swin Cash and Tamera Young chipped in 13 and 11 points respectively.
Kristi Toliver led the LA charge with 19 points while Alana Beard recorded 16 points. Candace Parker flirted with double-double figures as she managed 15 points and 9 rebounds while Nneka Ogwumike added 11.
Both teams committed a lot of turnovers - LA had 19 while Chicago turned the ball over on 18 occasions. However, Sky made up for it by distributing the ball very well with 25 assists as compared to 16. They also has 50 percent
conversion rate from the floor and also out rebounded Sparks 34-28.
Chicago took a 6-2 lead to start the proceedings but were in the groove early and carried a 22-18 lead into the second quarter courtesy of a 4-0 closing run. There was not much to separate the two teams until the midway point of
the second. However, an 8-0 run capped off by a deuce from Parker allowed LA to take a 34-26 lead.
The Sparks were able to hold on to their advantage and took a double figure lead into the interval courtesy of a 9-3 run to end the first half.
An 11-0 run in between the third quarter saw Chicago make their way back into the ball game and level up the proceedings. With the momentum on their side, another 8-0 run to end the third quarter allowed Sky to lead 60-56 before
the start of the final quarter.
Things remained competitive throughout the final quarter but just when it looked like LA were making their way back into the game, Chicago put an end to their charge and established a foothold in the contest.
In the end, Sky took this one by 11 points.
