Chicago White Sox Jake Peavy's bullpen session impressive – MLB News
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jake Peavy put in a tremendous throwing performance during his bullpen session on February 17, 2011.
Peavy is recovering from shoulder surgery and managed to impress the club with his bullpen session as he threw 40 pitches. He is a brilliant pitcher that the White Sox will be looking at too quickly get healthy before the regular season begins.
The White Sox understand the importance of having their pitching line-up at full strength before the season starts. Peavy plays a big part of that as he joins John Danks, Edwin Jackson, Gavin Floyd and Mark Buehrle. Each of these players plays a big part
in the White Sox regular season. Many games are won or lost at the hands of the pitchers. That is why the team will be looking for a quick recovery by Peavy from his surgery.
Peavy described his session and said, "Just nice and easy. Fastball, changeup, and the location were good. Just climbing like the other guys are. Just like I said, if anyone was out there, it wasn't any different than anyone else's. It was just a nice and
easy foundation."
Jake is looking to take part in Spring Training for the White Sox. It will give him a good opportunity to properly test his arm against some of the top hitters in the league. However, the team does not want Peavy to overextend himself by trying to rush his
pitches. This could further aggravate any progress he has made and may even injure his shoulder.
White Sox general manager Ken Williams seemed satisfied with Peavy’s recent bullpen session and the overall improvement that he has shown for the team. Williams said, "It's our job to make sure that competitive nature doesn't get the best of him. We will
watch him closely and be very cautious dealing with him as I explained to him today."
Due to his recent fitness and shoulder issues, Peavy will be the fifth starter for the White Sox. As Peavy slowly gets back to full pitching form, Chris Sale will most probably come in for his place for at least a month into the regular season. It seems
that team does not want to take any chances of hampering Peavy’s recovery and are going to use Sale in the beginning of the season.
Peavy will be looking to put more bullpen sessions in to improve his strength and overall throwing accuracy. He will be hoping to get back into action as soon as possible for the White Sox. The team is hoping that they can have a successful beginning to
their 2011 regular season campaign.
