Chicago White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen speaks out on Jake Peavy situation
Ozzie Guillen allowed his premier pitcher to take the ball into his hands and pitch against the Oakland Athletics in a Cactus League encounter in Glendale, Arizona.
The decision was risky as the pitcher was a star player, who had come out of a unique rehabilitation program.
That ball thrower is none other than Jake Peavy, and it’s important to note that he went on to the mound against the A’s after recovering from a serious flu.
Manager, Ozzie Guillen, knows better now and he took the opportunity to talk about his big star, who, is now cleared after a serious injury to his right shoulder, which went through a first of its kind, surgical repair.
Peavy sustained damage to a tendon, which attaches the latissimus dorsi muscle in the rear area of the shoulder, last season, and, he subsequently had to go through surgery at the hands of Dr. Anthony Romeo.
Now after visiting the same doctor again, following discomfort in the shoulder, it’s revealed that the hurler will not be out of action for a long time. The White Sox are not taking a chance on the player anymore.
There are speculations as to when Peavy will be back into the squad but Guillen took time to talk about the issue carefully with the press.
"It's nothing different besides what we talked about before we came here", said the manager. "Hopefully, he'll be ready when we put him out there, without setbacks".
"At the same time, we've got to be careful and always monitor the progress because last year we thought the same thing after some MRIs, so we're going to make sure we're going to stay on top of it. That's the bottom line. Things can change day to day when
you're coming off a major surgery and you're feeling the stuff we're feeling", Peavy said.
No matter what happens now, it’s certain that the White Sox are willing to spend their time on the lines of the dugout when it comes down to playing Peavy.
They will not let their ace go in without certainty that he is fit. When will the pitcher throw? Fans wait for the answer.
