Chicago White Sox Mark Buehrle crumbles against the Detroit Tigers 18-2 – MLB Update
Mark Buehrle struggled as the Detroit Tigers humiliate the Chicago White Sox 18-2 on Sunday, September 4 at Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan.
No one expected an easy match for the Detroit Tigers when the Chicago White Sox brought out Mark Buehrle to pitch from the mound. That expectation slipped out of mind when the premier ball thrower started to lose his focus and length against the American
League Central leaders. The opposition made short work of the veteran hurler when the smashed eight runs during his stint in the first four innings.
Buehrle understood the situation well when he took charge of the White Sox in this game. The Tigers were seven and a half games ahead of the team, at first place. There was a need to close the gap but the situation got worse for the squad as the Detroit
team produced a season high hits of 24.
Mark was on the receiving end as he earned seven runs off 10 hits. His ERA climbed to 3.34 and he had only four strike-outs to show for his misnomer leadership role. The veteran lost the seventh game of the season in 3.1 innings. He was not the only one
to receive a hard beat as the bullpen suffered from 14 hits in the nine inning period.
Talking about the team’s disappointing performance, Buehrle confirmed that the Tigers dominance in their play and strategy.
"I don't think there's any doubt on that," said Buehrle. "Obviously, we needed to come here and try to make a statement. Try to win two of three, if not try to sweep them to give us a chance. It was the furthest from what happened."
However there was no inclination towards losing hope on the season. The ace pitcher had a few words to share in terms of the club’s chances in making it to the post season.
"Mathematically, we are not out of it," Buehrle said. "Any smart man ain't going to like our chances. But we have 25 games left and have to go out and keep on fighting."
If the White Sox wanted to go into a double header in full confidence, they blew that chance today. The team will have to face the Minnesota Twins in a double header encounter, tomorrow.
