Chicago White Sox Paul Konerko may miss game against New York Yankees – MLB News
The Chicago White Sox found themselves in trouble on Sunday when Paul Konerko got bruised in the left calf as a wild pitch caught him off guard and hit him. The bruise has possibly taken off his name from the list of probably playing against the New York
Yankees on Monday.
Mystery surrounded the X-rays reports initially, but as it turned out later, X-rays turned out to be negative. This has left the team manager with no option but to rely on some alternate even if it is an inadequate substitute at this crucial time.
"When PK took himself out of the game (Sunday), it's not a concern, but I know that guy was hurt," the team manager Ozzie Guillen said.
Important to mention here is that Konerko has been phenomenal in his performance against the New York Yankees. Having maintained an impressive .315 hitting average with no less than 60 RBIs and 20 home-runs against the Yankees, his presence will certainly
constitute a powerful role.
Having played 103 games so far this season, Paul Konerko has remained 371 at-bats with 50 runs scored and 113 hits to his credit. Having had 76 RBIs and 25 home-runs to his credit, Konerko has maintained an average of .305 which is indeed impressive for
the player of his stature.
His career spans 14-years now with 1952 games that he has played and having scored 1021 runs with 390 home-runs to his credit. He also has 1232 RBIs with a .281 average. Bearing this in mind, it becomes obviously clear why the team needs the hitter of Konerko’s
calibre.
The Chicago White Sox have been exerting themselves to remain relevant in the 2011 season. Their efforts have not been discouraging either as having won 52 games, the White Sox stand 15th in the ranking.
Importantly, that which is being taken as a thoroughly positive sign, the team has managed to win six of the last ten games they have played.
The New York Yankees, on the other hand, stand second in the AL standings following the Boston Red Sox, as the former have won 65 and 66 goes to the credit of the latter. In the face of growing challenges to stand higher in the ranking, the Yankees will
try their best to win the series against the White Sox.
It would, therefore, be interesting to see how the two teams proceed in the upcoming series as both will try hard to prevail. The loss of Konerko for the White Sox will definitely have a negative impact on the overall performance of the team, especially
against the New York Yankees.
