Chicago White Sox: Regular season results – MLB August 2011
As August started, Chicago White Sox had a horrendous start to their four match series against New York Yankees. Despite being in a very strong position, they made too many unforced errors in the closing stages to let the opposition team take a narrow 3-2
victory in game one.
New York Yankees came really hard at the White Sox in game two of the series. Not allowing a single run to the batters, the Yankees’ pitching department did a marvellous job. The White Sox, on the other hand, lacked the firepower in several areas of the
game and they eventually paid the price in the form of a 0-6 defeat.
White Sox were completely dominated by their rivals in game three of the series, conceding 18 runs in nine innings. Team Manager, Ozzie Guillen was very disappointed with the way things went for him and his men on the field.
"Every game we lose is embarrassing," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "I think you get to the point where it's like 'What's going to happen next?'"
The White Sox were thrashed in the final game of the series as well, which concluded in a disastrous series result for them. However, Guillen still showed positive intent and he aimed to end the month strongly to give the fans something to cheer about.
Bouncing back brilliantly, the White Sox showed amazing character, fighting spirit and mental strength to clean sweep the Minnesota Twins in their next three match series. Guillen and his men had a hard time against the Twins in their previous encounters.
However, they looked on top of their game in all three games to earn a well deserved 3-0 series victory.
The White Sox had a great series against the Baltimore Orioles as well. In a four match series, the team created all sorts of problems for their rivals and they ended up winning the series 3-1, which also improved their win-loss record to 58-59. In game
four, Juan Pierre had three hits and two RBIs for his side to beat the Orioles for the third time in four games.
"Any other division we're looking at offseason plans like fishing. But in this division we're still in the middle of it," Pierre said. "Without a doubt the best road trip we have had all year. Everything clicked all throughout the lineup."
Guillen also praised the efforts of his players. Chicago ended the month strongly with series victories over the red hot Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins. The White Sox managed to come together as a team and battle it out with some of
the top teams in the League.
