Chicago White Sox: Regular season results – MLB July 2011
Chicago had finally managed to get things back on track in June after struggling to find their form in the first two months of the season. Team Manager, Ozzie Guillen looked very confident and he encouraged his side to give even better results in the month
of July. Making the most of their opportunities, the White Sox had improved their record to 40-42 in June after they were 10-18 at the end of April.
The White Sox had a very good series against their arch rivals Chicago Cubs. White Sox displayed some high quality baseball in the first two games to take the series. Cubs fought back well in game three of the series to bring some respectability to the final
score line.
Making his debut, Phil Humber pitched with great control in game two to let his side complete their first series victory of the month. He pitched in seven shut-out innings and Matt Garza allowed only four singles in the complete game.
"I'm very fortunate," Humber said after his first career appearance against the Cubs.
"I was behind in the count a lot and just was able to throw something down in the zone when I needed an out. They made some great plays," he said.
The White Sox had a wonderful start to their next three match series against the Kansas City Royals, securing a thrilling 5-4 victory in the opening game. However, they failed to live up to the expectations in the following two games to suffer their first
series loss of the month.
Chicago’s poor run continued against the Minnesota Twins as well and they managed to get only a win in a four match series. It will not be wrong to say that they were outclassed in almost all aspects of the game. Team Manager, Ozzie Guillen aimed to come
back strong in their future fixtures.
The White Sox looked on top of their game in a three match series against the Detroit Tigers, securing comfortable wins in the opening two games. Although they put up a good show in game three as well, they wasted too many opportunities to let the opposition
clinch a narrow 4-3 victory. The White Sox ended the month with victories over the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians.
Chicago was building momentum, but they were lacking consistency. They were having a very erratic season as they seemed to struggle against the top teams in the League. The White Sox were looking to come together as a team and put in an improved performance
in the next month, if they were to have any chance of having a successful regular season.
