Chicago White Sox: Regular season results – MLB September 2011
Chicago White Sox had a wonderful time against Detroit Tigers in the month of July as they emerged victorious in four out six games against them. However, the Tigers turned the tables on them in September in a great display of baseball. In a three match
series against Detroit, the White Sox were thrashed in each encounter, which damaged their win-loss record significantly to 68-69.
Ozzie Guillen and his men put up great fight in game two but they were completely outplayed in final game of the series to let their rivals take an incredible 3-0 series victory. The White Sox made a large number of unforced errors including three pitching
errors in final game to face ultimate humiliation.
Looking to gain some confidence, the White Sox adopted a more aggressive approach in a four match series against Minnesota Twins. Claiming three straight victories over the Twins, the South Siders earned their first series victory of the month to stay in
the pennant race. In game three, Jake Peavy allowed only four hits and walked two in just over six innings.
"Every time he's on the mound, we feel great stuff is going to happen," manager Ozzie Guillen said of Peavy. "That's the kind of pitcher he is. He's been up and down a few times, but always in the back of our minds we know he's one year off of major surgery."
"We're still in the pennant race," Guillen said before the game. "I know it's going to be hard. ... One thing about it, we're not going to quit."
However, the White Sox were unable to live up to the expectations in the following games. Although the managed to draw the series against Cleveland Indians, the overall quality of their game play was way below par. Losing all three games against the Tigers,
they found themselves in a very bleak situation. It was a disappointing result for Chicago considering the hard work they had put in to keep themselves with a chance of possibly making it to the post-season.
White Sox had a poor series against Kansas City Royals as well as they lost the opening three games to let the opposition take a commanding 3-0 lead. Although they ended the series on a high note, the series loss damaged their win-loss record to 74-79. Nonetheless,
the White Sox ended the month with a series victory over the Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays.
These two series wins gave the White Sox something to cheer about, as they gained some confidence. Overall the White Sox were struggling with some inconsistent performances against some of the top teams.
