Chicago White Sox Sign free agents Donnie Veal and Jose Quintana – MLB News
The Chicago White Sox is rightly adding some strength into their 40-man roster in this offseason especially during the free agency period as they just signed two very talented left handed pitchers Donnie Veal and Jose Quintana from the Minor League.
Both these new signings have complete backing White Sox General Manager Ken Williams, who himself showed enormous support and keen interest bringing them in for the next MLB season.
Williams was present on Thursday night when he spoke to the media regarding White Sox two new prospects. He said of Veal, “He’s got an electric arm, He's has had trouble with his delivery, getting his delivery fine-tuned enough to be consistent.”
Williams also commented on Quintana and said, “He’s a strike thrower; He can spin the breaking ball. He’s got velocity to both sides of the plate. He can grow up and be a starter. We're very happy to have both.”
Veal’s stats also show his great pitching abilities and since 2005 he has posted a 3.86 ERA in 140 career Minor League appearances (113 starts). He was a second-round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs in 2005 and recently was in the Pittsburgh Pirates and pitched
in 19 games in last season.
The other White Sox new-comer Quintana first signed by the New York Mets in April of 2006 and played excellent with a 10-2 record with a 2.91 ERA in 30 appearances at Single-A Tampa in the New York Yankees affiliate. Overall in total 82 appearances (41 starts),
he has averaged 2.76 ERA in over five Minor League seasons.
On the other hand, according to some media reports, these two new signings is an extension of last week’s re-signing of third baseman Dallas McPherson. Some speculations are also coming as some more new faces will be coming into the White Sox probably in
the next few weeks.
It will be interesting to see what type of impact these players will have on the White Sox game in the next season as every team is preparing to do well in 2012.
