Chicago White Sox: Spring season results - MLB 2011
Chicago White Sox had a forgettable start to their spring season campaign as they were defeated 5-6 in the first game to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Robin Ventura and his men were unable to deliver the goods in their next game against Milwaukee Brewers as well
as they made a large number of unforced errors to let the opposition take a 3-1 victory.
The South Siders displayed some good quality baseball in their following game against Cincinnati Reds. Showing great determination and fighting spirits, the White Sox managed to stay in the contest right till the last innings. However, it was Cincinnati,
who eventually came out on top as Edwin Jackson threw two scoreless innings for his team. Although the White Sox lost the game, team Manager, Ozzie Guillen was happy with the way his team played.
Looking to salvage some of the lost pride, the White Sox showed their new face in a game against Seattle Mariners as they dominated their rivals in almost all aspects of the game to secure an impressive 6-1 victory. The pitchers did a marvellous job to restrict
the opposition team to a very small total and the batter scored their runs freely in a comfortable win for the Chicago White Sox.
However, the Sox were unable to give similar results in their following games as they were beaten in three straight games. Matches against Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals all resulted in a failure in for Ozzie Guillen and his
men as they disappointed their fans big time.
After managing a tie against Cleveland Indians in one of the games, the White Sox looked more sharp and more focused in their next game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, crushing the challengers 12-1 in a completely one sided contest. Playing a charity game,
the White Sox came out victorious to benefit the Christine Taylor Green Memorial Fund.
"A lot of guys wanted to come here because of the cause," said Guillen, the Chicago manager.
The White Sox then defeated Colorado Rockies 9-8 in a thrilling encounter to gain some sort of momentum. Against Texas Rangers, Guillen and his men stuck to their game plan to beat the hottest baseball team. Phil Humber pitched with great control to keep
the opposition to a score that was below par.
"I said yesterday nobody's impressed me at all," Guillen said. "It was nice because this kid came out and pitched the ball well against a tough team. It was a big step, a huge step for him today."
Overall the training season turned out to be poor one for the White Sox as they managed to win 11 out of their 29 games.
