Chicago White Sox ace Jake Peavy on his way back to Disabled List - MLB News
The Chicago White Sox have losses lining up, in different forms though. The first blow came when they were defeated 7-3 by the Detroit Tigers and the next one came when Jake Peavy went back to the Disabled List which he is becoming a little too familiar
with since the season kicked off, as MRI’s confirmed that Peavy has a mild groin strain.
In the fourth inning of the game, Peavy strained his groin muscle and although the star initially expected to miss one start, he would be going down to the Disabled List for a lot more time.
This is the second time that Peavy is suffering from groin injuries. The first one was felt in his last start which was against the Boston Red Sox on May 30. Even at that time, Peavy didn’t worry much about it. That injury combined with this one is enough
for a trip down to the Disabled List.
Going back to the Disabled List is going to be unsettling for the ace, as he had previously missed eleven months after a surgery to repair his detached latissimus dorsi muscle. Obviously returning to the game after such a long break and then going back to
the Disabled List so quick is a bit unsettling for Peavy. He was trying to get through an ankle strain when he was traded by the San Diego Padres to the White Sox.
In the five starts that he has managed to have this season his ERA is at 4.66 with a 2-1 record.
When the game started off, Peavy had his best stuff going. He retired nine hitters while striking-out the first three that faced him. After the initial excellent start, things started deteriorating. It came to a point where Peavy had given up six runs off
three hits along with three walks and a wild pitch. For the player who had allowed only one walk in the entire season, this performance was just not cutting it. He was removed from the game by the time the fourth inning rolled by.
After being placed on the 15-day Disabled List, Peavy will be substituted by Lucas Harrell a right hander from the Triple-A Charlotte. He is expected to make a return on June 21 but coming back won’t be easy for him. According to general manager Ken Williams,
Peavy would require at the very least one Minor League rehabilitation assignment before he could get back to the Majors.
Williams commented, "No matter what he thinks, he can't simulate the intensity of a game in the bullpen, warming up or during pitchers' fielding practice, you just can't do that. You have to get in the game, have to break toward first base, cover first base.
Those are the only things that will test how strong you are getting down in your groin area. That's just the way it is."
Peavy’s luck at the moment, is just as gloomy as Chicago’s weather, it seems.
