Chicago White Sox beat Baltimore Orioles 8-1 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8-1 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, August 29 at Oriole Park in Baltimore.
Dylan Axelrod pitched tremendously and won the game for the White Sox. He tossed 7.1 innings and received only one run. He allowed three hits and struck-out five on his 4.93 ERA.
"We told (Axelrod) after last night's game that he better win, because we kind of needed it," said Beckham regarding his team-mate and pitcher.
Relief pitcher Donnie Veal also showed good resistance and did not allow any run or hit on his 1.1 inning spell. He did not allow any loop-holes and maintained his slugging percentage at 1.42.
On the other hand, the Orioles' pitchers were hammered with big hits which eventually proved disastrous as they lost with bitter humiliation.
Starter Joe Saunders pitched 5.1 innings and allowed seven runs and ten hits. He retired four hitters but his ERA rose to 10.13.
“It just didn't go my way there in the first, that was pretty much the game as it ends up, I was making good pitches, I kind of looked back at (catcher Matt Wieters) and said, 'What's going on here?'” said Saunders.
"They talk about being a stopper. I'm not that, but I came out with that mindset, Put forth my best effort and get this team back on a winning track that hopefully carries into (Thursday) into (a weekend series with) Detroit as well." said Chris Sale.
Later closing pitcher Kevin Gregg also received one run and two hits. He also could not play well and lost the game for his team. He did not strike-out any batter while his ERA remained at 4.32.
Though the last two pitchers did well for the Orioles, but overall the game was already spoiled by their upfront pitchers who allowed eight runs in total.
Relief pitcher Luis Ayala pitched one inning and did not allow any run or hit while he did strike-out two White Sox’s hitters on his 2.71 ERA.
Steve Johnson tossed one inning and struck-out one on his consistent 3.00 ERA.
