Chicago White Sox bounce back with 5-3 hammering over Cleveland Indians – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox bounced back with 5-3 win over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday, May 8, at Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio in their third game of four-game regular series encounter in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Right fielder Alex Rios played brilliantly down the stretch in 10th innings and put his team right back into the series.
"It was just part of baseball," Rios said with confidence. "I was just trying to hit the ball hard somewhere and it worked out pretty good."
White Sox’s pitchers also showed resistance and never gave any loop holes to the Indians, despite doing a drastic comeback in the eighth innings.
The White Sox’s only pitcher, who was not having the good game, Chris Sale, certainly put his team under pressure after giving three runs and gave the opponents a chance to level the game in eighth.
"I was mentally and physically ready to go, even though I hadn't been out there for a while," Sale said. "I feel bad for Johnny. We rode in together and he was pumped, saying 'I'm better than that, I can beat that team.' I let him down."
Later closer Hector Santiago and Addison Reed pitched the all important ninth and 10th giving the White Sox a perfect plat-form to take the game away.
"These guys didn't fold," manager Robin Ventura said for his players. "They battled and did just a great job. That was a well-struck ball by Rios."
The White Sox took the early lead of two runs in the very first innings and kept the lead until seventh innings. However, second baseman Jason Kipnis, first baseman Casey Kotchman and catcher Carlos Santana put the Indians right back into the game helping
the Indians score three runs.
On the other hand, as the game went into extra innings, first the Alex Rios’ triple in deep provided opportunity to pinch hitter Brent Lillibridge to run for a score while later he himself added another run for his team’s tremendous win.
Now the series is standing at 2-1 while still one game to be played on Wednesday, May 9.
