Chicago White Sox closing pitchers will play a key role next season, say experts
The 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training in full swing in Arizona and California where top American and National League teams are practicing ahead of next big event in the league.
The Chicago White Sox along with 14 other American League teams are playing in Cactus League in Arizona and warming up for the regular season. Currently the workouts, trainings, and game practices are going smooth for the South Chicago baseball franchise, but for a good beginning and better results, the team needs a more productive set of skills from its entire roster.
Recently some top experts in the game have explained in the media as the White Sox not only need good hitters, but they also need good pitchers to stay on top at every stage of the game next season. Currently the White Sox possess some of the best pitchers in the League. But here, not only they need good starting pitchers, but they also need some well prepared closing pitchers as well to close the game on high note.
Even the White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper has also said and put emphases on closing pitchers’ importance. Cooper said, "There's so much other stuff going on and so much time left that the guys vying for the (open) spots will show us who we need to take by what they do and how they do it, And we feel the same way about the closer. They're going to show us through their work and where they're at.”
He added, “We are cantering in on that pitch more than any other pitch and working on the consistency of that pitch to both sides of the plate. I 'm just going to flip a breaking ball.' So he has to power it.”
Cooper, who is also working very hard with the team since joining here in this year’s Spring Training, knows as the White Sox are lacking at closing pitchers’ prospective. He also believes that if the White Sox managed to overcome this slight deficiency in the upcoming season, the results of the next season will be far different than they had achieved in 2011.
