Chicago White Sox crush Cleveland Indians 7-1 – MLB Spring Training
Chicago White Sox crushed Cleveland Indians 7-1 at the Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona on Tuesday, March 27 in their Cactus League clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Indians’ starter Ubaldo Jimenez continued his poor form as he gave up plenty of hits in just over five innings. Allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out three, he certainly lacked consistency in his second-last start of this spring.
Jimenez, who has poor 6.27 ERA this spring, is looking to bounce back from a forgettable season after finishing 4-4 with a 5.10 ERA in 2011. Indians’ Manager Manny Acta is convinced that Jimenez will come back stronger.
"I was able to throw a lot of strikes to get ahead and stay ahead," Jimenez said. "I think it was the first game that I've been able to do that in spring training."
"It's a big relief for me," Acta said. "I wanted to see some improvement. He looks very relaxed, at times too relaxed. He says he doesn't always pitch well in spring training. He has assured us the velocity will be there. We have to trust him."
For the White Sox, Brent Morel and Alejandro De Aza hit their first spring home runs and Paul Konerko added two doubles.
The White Sox will be delighted with their performance in a game that was completely dominated by them. Adopting a very aggressive approach, they outclassed their opponents in almost all areas of the game.
With their win over the Indians, the White Sox have now improved their spring win-loss record to 11-17. After making a slow start to their 2012 Spring Training campaign, it seems the White Sox have finally managed to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
Unable to handle the pressure, the White Sox failed to live up to the expectations last season. Manager Robin Ventura and his men will be hoping to take their impressive form into the regular season to give themselves a chance to win their first World Series
title since 2005. It will be interesting to see if the White Sox can surprise their critics by reaching the World Series finals.
