Chicago White Sox defeat Cleveland Indians 4-2 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox defeated Cleveland Indians 4-2 at the Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Monday, April 9 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball. The win will be of great importance for the White Sox who looked a bit out
of sorts during Spring Training Session.
Chris Sale looked in outstanding form as he earned his first win of the season in an emphatic fashion. The starter threw twice as many pitches as he ever had in his previous MLB starts. Giving up one run in just over six innings, he played a very crucial
role in White Sox’s 4-2 win over the Indians on Monday night.
Sale seems to be making the most of available opportunities this season. For the past two years, he has been pitching out of the bullpen but after ace Mark Buehrle left the team as a free agent this winter, Sale was added to the pitching rotation. He is
certainly making himself and the skipper proud.
Allowing just three hits and striking out five, he held the Indians to a very small total in his longest ever outing. It will be interesting to see if Sale can put up similar performances in his upcoming major starts.
"He threw great," said manager Robin Ventura. "We probably could have left him in there. Very happy with what he did tonight. He had velocity and a slider to go with it. He's been kind of doing that all spring and it's kind of nice to see him bring that
outside of Arizona."
"He was overpowering at times," Manny Acta said. "He had a good fastball with tail and a sharp slider."
"He was huge," Sale said about Pierzynski. "He called a great game. It sounds stupid, but I was just out there throwing the pitches."
Hitter A.J. Pierzynski hit a two run home run in the first and Alejandro De Aza blasted a home run to give the White Sox 3-0 lead. Rookie’ pitcher Hector Santiago went for a leadoff homer in the final inning but he came back strongly to close out Sale’s
first win.
