Chicago White Sox defeat Cleveland Indians 7-3 – MLB Update
The Chicago White Sox overpowered the Cleveland Indians 7-3 in the third outing of the four-game series at U.S Cellular Field in Chicago on Saturday 10 to take a 2-1 lead.
Chicago’s Alex Rios launched a grand slam against the Indians’ closer Chris Perez in the bottom of the tenth inning to elevate his club to a walk off win. The game was tied at 3-all until the top of the seventh inning and both teams were at their best to
clinch it for their side.
Rios launched his first grand slam of his career and helped the White Sox take their first game-ending home-run win this season. Left-fielder Juan Pierre, first baseman Paul Konerko and catcher Tyler Flowers were occupying the bases, when centre-fielder
Rios entered for his fifth at-bat. He was 0-for-4 before launching the destroyer to take the White Sox into their 73rd win of the season.
"I assumed he was going to come (inside). I guess I got the pitch and put a good swing on it. It worked." He added. "Sometimes you get in stretches where you have a hard time scoring runs. I felt like we had one of those games today. We came through."
His team-mates Gordon Beckham, Pierre added RBIs to help their club generate an early lead. Second baseman Beckham scored two RBIs on a single hit. Pierre also added an RBI single.
Their starter Philip Humber allowed two runs on seven hits off the six innings. He also struck-out seven batters. Jesse Crain followed with an allowed run on single hit and struck-out two batters over one inning. Chris Sale did not allow any run over his
two innings and struck-out four batters. Closer Sergio Santos tossed a no-hit last inning to get his fourth win of the season with a 3.12 ERA.
"That (summed up) the White Sox season right there," Chicago’s manager Ozzie Guillen said. "The only thing we did good is we won. I'm glad we won, but it was tough."
Indians’ starter Francisco Carmona permitted early three runs on six hits in just over five innings.
