Chicago White Sox defeat Cleveland Indians 8-4 – MLB Update
Mark Buehrle threw six strong innings on Wednesday, September 22 to help the Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 8-4 at Progressive Field.
The White Sox starter won the 160th game of his career to also give a 2-1 lead to the team in the four-game series.
"Buehrle threw great," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "He needed that. That's the Buehrle we see all the time."
For Buehrle, there is an increased hope that he will be playing for the White Sox in the times to come as his contract nears an end. For now, he will be playing, most probably, his last game on Tuesday where he will throw against the Toronto Blue Jays.
"I'm not looking at it as my last start," said Buehrle, who gave up two runs and four hits to Cleveland. "I'm going to go out there as if I'm coming back next year. It all depends on what the White Sox want to do. They spent a lot of money this year and
we didn't get it done. “
The win would not have been perfected had it not been for the two-run single tiebreaker coming from Alejandro De Aza’s bat. “A big hit there by De Aza,” Guillen said.
Mark Buehrle unleashed a flurry of unplayable pitches against the Cleveland Indians’ hitters, not allowing any of them to score runs. While Ubaldo Jimenez reciprocated up until the fourth inning, as the game remained scoreless, it was Tyler Flowers who broke
the drought of runs.
Flowers scored a one-run double to deep right in the fifth inning to formally lay the foundation of victory for the White Sox. However, Travis Hafner did prove a stumbling block with his two-run homer in the sixth, only to be reversed again by the White
Sox offence.
Brent Morel scored a one-run double while Alejandro De Aza hit the most desperately needed tiebreaking  two-run single against Ubaldo Jimenez who was pitching well up until then. Once the tiebreaking run was hit, the White Sox intensified their winning campaign
in the 8th inning.
Alexei Ramirez hit a homer followed by that of Alex Rios. When the score went to 6-2, Brent Morel hit a two-run homer to perfectly put the White Sox on the winning track. Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santana tried staging a comeback with their respective singles,
but it was too late.
Sergio Santos came to pitch the ninth inning. The closer made it a successful bid with a scoreless inning to wrap up the game with an 8-4 victory. The White Sox now look forward to winning the four-game series by 3-1 while the Indians will try to somehow
level it.
