Chicago White Sox defeat Kansas City Royals 6-3 – MLB Update
Brent Morel and Alex Rios homered on Saturday, September 24 to help the Chicago White Sox beat Kansas City Royals 6-3 at U.S. Cellular Field.
The win for the White Sox meant snapping their losing streak of five games.
John Danks pitched 7.1 effective innings, giving up six hits and three runs with a 4.33 ERA, to perfect the victory for the Chicago White Sox. His rival on Saturday, Everett Teaford proved to be costly for the Royals.
Teaford gave up six hits and five runs in the five innings that he pitched, having four strike-outs compared to Danks eight.
Nonetheless, there was hardly a great deal of happiness that might have greeted the White Sox as it was only their fourth win for the team in the last 14 games they have played. Compared to which the Royals have only lost three of their last 12 games.
Chicago White Sox had a relatively strong start this time as Alex Rios had a two-run homer in the second inning against Teaford. Juan Pierre followed with a single and Alexei Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to put the team on the right track, giving them a 4-0
lead by the end of the inning.
Brent Morel homered to left in the fourth inning to take up the lead to 5-0 as Everett Teaford failed to contain the White Sox hitters. Royals opened their bats in the sixth inning with Melky Cabrera scoring a two run double followed by Eric Hosmer’s single,
making it 5-3 for the Royals.
However, the Royals could not capitalise on the little gain they made in the sixth inning as Danks came down hard on the offence in the following innings. Brent Morel had another single to take in the eighth to take the lead to 6-3 for the White Sox.
As Chris Sale was dispatched to pitch the ninth inning, the closer tossed effective pitches to conclude the game with a 6-3 win for the White Sox against the otherwise relatively strong Kansas City Royals.
