Chicago White Sox defeat Kansas City Royals 9-8 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 9-8 in the first game of their three-match series on Friday, July 13 at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City.
Third baseman Kevin Youkilis played well for the White Sox and scored two runs and a single RBI.
White Sox manager Robin Ventura commented on Youkilis and said, "At some point you figure he's battling enough that he's going to be able to win that. He's the guy you want to have up there in that situation."
Ventura discussed his team’s effort and added, "It was crazy. You go back and forth, one team goes ahead, the other team goes ahead, You don't necessarily expect that, but it happens."
Second baseman Gordon Beckham also performed well and earned a good victory for the White Sox as he scored one run and a RBI.
“We just kept battling back, and it was a pretty unbelievable game, There were so many times I could see that game being over," Beckham said.
Royals’ manager looked disappointed as he later told the media about different aspects of his team’s defeat.
"The offense did a great job of battling back. We had a couple of situations to put it away, but didn't," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said.
The White Sox played aggressive from start of the game and earned a good victory in the second half of the season.
Jose Quintana pitched five innings as he received five runs, eight hits and five earned runs along with two homers. He struck-out four batters as his ERA remained consistent at 2.60.
On the other hand, Royals’ starter Bruce Chen was hammered with six runs on nine hits along with six earned runs. He was also hammered with three homers as his ERA rose to 5.50.
Though the Royals’ overall performance was balanced but their pitching was way-ward as they lost an important game from the White Sox.
With this win, the White Sox now stand at top in the American League Central with 48-39 win-loss record along with a .552 winning percentage. The White Sox will be looking to put a good performance in the remainder of the series and build up some confidence in their game-play.
