Chicago White Sox defeat Minnesota Twins 3-0 – MLB Update
The Chicago White Sox blanked the Minnesota Twins 3-0 to gain an unassailable three-game lead in the four-game series on Tuesday, September 6 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The win brought Chicago to second position in the American League Central division but with the regular season nearing its end, this achievement has no significance other than personal glory.
The Twins were reduced to 58-84 for the season after this battering and their home record of 29-42 is a true depiction of their sorry state this year. Conditions were abject for batting and the game as largely dominated by the pitchers.
Jake Peavy of Chicago had the better of the inexperienced Twins’ starter Liam Hendriks. Peavy bagged just one short of ten strike-outs in 6.1 innings amid four hits to improve his winning percentage for the season to .500. Peavy employed his entire arsenal
in the game to bring his earned-run average down to 4.92 after he managed 73 strikes in a total of 105 pitches. His win-loss tally now stands decent at 7-7.
Peavy’s counterpart Hendriks failed to impress at the big stage as he was charged for three runs and four hits in seven innings of hard work. This performance can be termed decent, given it was his first start, but had fewer ingredients to make an impression
on the management and the bull-pen. However, there were a few positive aspects of this performance as well.
Hendriks struck-out four batters and threw 99 pitches in a good screening of strength and stamina. He will be looking for an extended run to prove his mettle against the might of MLB.
Alejandro De Aza was by far the best batter in the line-up for the White Sox. De Aza connected twice in his three at-bats, scoring once and producing an RBI to improve his batting average to .312 for the season, a team-best for Chicago. Alex Rios also impressed
with his hitting power when he smashed a mesmerising 386-feet home-run down the left flank in the fourth inning.
Jason Frasor and Matt Thornton held their games respectively while Sergio Santos bagged his 29th save of the season for the White Sox.
