Chicago White Sox defeat Oakland Athletics 3-2 - MLB Update
After defeating the Chicago White Sox just a day before, the Oakland Athletics could not deliver another victory and were defeated 3-2 in the third of the four game series on June 11 at the US Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois.
From the White Sox side, John Danks pitched with control and precision for a good seven and two third innings where he gave up only two runs and effectively bagged his second winning after his terrible 2-8 start of the season.
The White Sox pitcher was successful in establishing himself, but unfortunately the same can’t be said about Gio Gonzalez. He left no stone unturned to give the White Sox opportunities to score. Walk after walk was allowed by him but the most costly would
have to be the last one he allowed.
Brent Lillibridge was quite the catcher throughout the game but perhaps his shining moment came when he made quite a dramatic movie like leap and caught the ball which was way out of his reach. Had he not caught the ball Coco Crisp would’ve been successful
in belting out a home-run that would’ve tied the match and dragged it on.
Just like most of the people in the stadium and the players from both sides, pitcher Danks was in awe. "I'm speechless," he commented regarding Lillibridge’s catch, "I really am. That was unbelievable. Coco hit it on the barrel. When he hit it, I thought
it was halfway up the concourse. Luckily the weather kind of knocked it down. Brent made a h**l of a play out there."
As a new entry from the Minor Leagues, Lillibridge is proving himself in every position that he has placed on. He has already been in three outfield spots and hasn’t faltered anywhere. Currently Lillibridge is hitting .273 with seven home-runs under his
belt in the duration of 88 at bats.
He has praises coming to him from all direction as White Sox manager, Ozzie Guillen said, "This kid is the best outfielder we have."
The first run of the game came in the third inning courtesy of Alexei Ramirez who scored on a wild pitch by Gonzalez. The Athletics countered it with a run in the fourth inning, as Josh Willingham singled and Cliff Pennington scored. Ramon Castro belted
out a home-run that lasted a strong 398 feet for the White Sox in the fourth inning. The Athletics gave Chicago strong competition and tied that score as Coco Crisp scored on Hideki Matsui’s sacrifice hit.
The White Sox decided to silence their opponents once and for all as Carlos Quentin grounded as Lillibridge scored. Leading with a single run, the Chicago White Sox grabbed the win.
