Chicago White Sox defeated by Boston Red Sox 2-6 – MLB news
Chicago White Sox defeated by the Boston Red Sox 2-6 in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, May 22 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
Though the Red Sox’s won this particular game but they could not avoid the series’ defeat which Chicago side had already won.
“It's good for our record, but I think it should be good for our confidence that we belong on the same field as some of these teams, I don't think we doubt that anyway, but it reinforces it,” Paul Konerko said.
Red Sox started well early in the first inning as they scored two back to back runs. David Ortiz made single to left fielder while left fielder Jonny Gomes and second baseman Dustin Pedroia ran to complete two runs.
“I thought tonight, still, he had very good stuff,” manager John Farrell said. “He's still pitching in the low to mid-90s with his fastball. The biggest thing is you never can sit on any one pitch in any given count.”
Later third baseman Will Middlebrooks and first baseman Mike Napoli also showed their offensive skills and scored two runs in the bottom eighth inning. The last inning was also enthralling as Red Sox again scored two runs in White Sox’s response of one run.
Almost all the Red Sox batters played wonderfully and scored runs for their team. They played intelligently against the White Sox’s pitchers and hammered them with huge hits.
Centre fielder Jacoby Ellsbury scored one run on two hits. He batted well on his three at bats as he also remained consistent on his .340 slugging percentage.
Designated hitter David Ortiz batted really well on his five at bats. He scored one run on two hits along with two RBIs on his .622 slugging percentage.
Along with batters, the Red Sox’s pitchers were also quite aggressive. They all pitched well and rattled the White Sox’s entire hitting lineup with sliders and fast balls.
Especially Clay Buchholz pitched wonderfully and literally won the game for the Red Sox. He pitched seven solid innings and allowed only one run on 1.73 ERA. He struck out four and remained confident during his entire spell.
