Chicago White Sox defeated by Washington Nationals 4-7 – MLB Recap
Chicago White Sox defeated by Washington Nationals 4-7 in the last game of their three-match regular series encounter of 2013 Major League Baseball season on Thursday, April 11 at Nationals Park in Washington.
With this win the Nationals also completed the 3-0 series win over the White Sox.
"I just didn't want to give in. We got to 3-2 and I went with the changeup. I hadn't thrown a changeup to a right-hander all game," White Sox starter Axelrod said, "and it seemed like a good idea at the time."
The White Sox could not even play their natural game throughout the series. Earlier they lost the first game with 7-8 and second with 5-2 while this latest hammering of 4-7 was enough to send them without winning a single game.
Nationals’ pitchers and batters played firmly and never allowed the White Sox players to settle in the game. The Nationals starter Dan Haren pitched five innings and received three runs on ten hits. He struck out five and remained calm on the mound.
“Obviously, they're showing a lot of respect for Bryce, 10 days into the season," Nationals starter Dan Haren (1-0) said after getting the win despite allowing 10 hits in five innings. "I mean, he's special. Our lineup's really good, though. There's no soft
spots."
His teammate and relief pitcher Ryan Mattheus also did a good job for the Nationals as he received only one run on his two innings spell. He struck out three White Sox potential batters and maintained his 3.18 ERA.
Not only pitchers, but the Nationals hitters also contributed in their team’s win. They all did well and scored total runs which White Sox could not chase.
Centre fielder Denard Span scored two runs on four at bats. He played very well early on and maintained his slugging percentage at .387.
Right fielder Jayson Werth also scored two runs on two hits while his slugging percentage was also remained persistent at .568.
On the other hand, the White Sox pitchers were the main reason their team lost this particular game. Starter Dylan Axelrod allowed too many runs on his 5.79 ERA. He relieved heavy hitting and allowed six runs in his 3.2 innings spell.
