Chicago White Sox dominate as they defeat Tampa Bay Rays 9-2 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox broke their losing spell of the ongoing series as they defeated Tampa Bay Rays 9-2 at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg on Thursday, April 21.
After losing three consecutive matches, the White Sox conducted an offensive which was not only aggressive but unsurpassable. The White Sox defence was in no way weak either, apart from vulnerability that each defence invariably faces.
Chicago started the game assertively when Vizquel struck Jeff Niemann who had come out to pitch for Tampa Bay. Vizquel grounded out to second to allow Juan Pierre to score the first run for the White Sox. Gavin Floyd, pitching for White Sox, got a shut-out
inning, giving a 1-0 lead to Chicago at the end of the first inning.
Omar Vizquel, A.J. Pierzynski, Carlos Quentin and Paul Konerko hit two runs each, enabling the team to score a desperate victory. "That's the way we expected to play every day, to be honest with you," Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said. "I don't want to
be cocky. This team is allowed to play that way because of the way we built this ballclub and the talent we have."
The White Sox were simply unstoppable in the third inning after maintaining a 1-0 lead until third inning. It was an opportunity to double the lead for Chicago’s batters. Vizquel doubled to right where Pierre scored once again. Paul Konerko followed, as
he singled to right centre where Vizquel scored and Carlos Quentin ran to third. Adam Dunn was the next, as Jeff Niemann was charged once again and Dunn singled to right where Quentin scored. A.J. Pierzynski made it the fourth hit and run of the inning, thereby
taking the lead to 5-1 for Chicago.
Tampa Bay came back to minimise the lead with Sam Fuld hitting two runs bringing down the lead to 5-2. Chicago came back with two runs by Quentin taking the lead 8-2. Konerko singled to left in the eighth inning as Mark Teahen scored. When Jeff Gray came
out to pitch for Chicago, Tampa Bay were hardly allowed to go even for a hit, thereby restricting Rays and paving the way for an emphatic 9-2 victory for the White Sox.
It will be interesting to see how the White Sox carry their winning momentum into their next match-up. Tampa Bay put in a decent performance, but it was not enough to contain Chicago’s offence.
